Andrew Williams Welch, Jr. was born on 14 March 1921 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the oldest son of Andrew Williams Welch and Helen Stevens Comerford.  Andy grew up in West Roxbury, Massachusetts.  He was a graduate of Roxbury Latin School (1940) and Harvard College (1944).  He was unmarried.  Aside from his parents, Andy was survived by two brothers, Richard and Robert, and a sister, Eleanor."
