D.W. "Donald" Fry - EM3
Patrol 9
"Donald is my mother's first cousin. My mother is J. Marvene (Waltman) Elliott. Donald's parents are Lloyd and Anne Fry. They both grew up in Union County PA. Most all of our family still resides in central Pennsylvania. Uncle Lloyd graduated from Bucknell University is the 1920's and accepted a job in Lynn Massachusetts for General Electric, he was a steam engineer. Donald was born in Lynn, and lived there until 1940, when my great uncle was transferred to Atlanta Georgia.
Donald was their only child, and as you can guess their pride and joy. Donald graduated from High School and joined the Navy. Uncle Lloyd and Aunt Anne did not really want him to go, but he did and shortly after the USS Snook was declared missing. I believe Donald was 19 years old. Uncle Lloyd continued to write letters to Donald all the while it was missing. In 1980 when Aunt Anne moved from the house the attic was still full of all of Donald's things - I remember seeing his baseball glove and trumpet. He has a grave in Atlanta, but as you know the men are resting at sea in the Snook.
I hope you will add his picture to your site, all the brave men deserve to have a photo, and to know they are still loved and missed all these many years later. Thank you for your website and honoring all the young men who gave their lives. If I can be of further assistance, please email me."
