Memorial Day 2014

website: https://submarinememorial.org/index.html

I was thrilled to represent Snook in the annual "Tolling of the Boats" ceremony - Click for VIDEO clip.  I met 95 year old Captain Jim Lynch, who served on Snook's first 4 patrols (Sadly, we lost Captain Lynch on August 14, 2014) and Marianne Light (George Olson, S1), both are regulars at the event.  Marianne and I have been talking since 2006.  It was so great to finally meet her!

During the ceremony, the bell was tolled for Snook, Captain Lynch gave his salute and I placed the US flag in front of the Snook Memorial.  Later I was able to place a bouquet of flowers in the "Remembrance Pool."  It was a very moving event that I'll remember for a long time.

There is a state flag above each memorial.  Each state was assigned a submarine for a memorial site.  Since 52 subs were lost during WWII, CA and NY each have 2 memorials.  The Arkansas flag flies over the Snook marker, since the USS Snook Memorial is in North Little Rock, AR.
