T.W. "Thomas" Lamont II - S1

Patrols 7 - 9

"My name is Ted Lamont (Edward M. Lamont), younger brother of Tom Lamont ("Tommy"), who was lost when the Snook went down.

Congratulations on your Snook memorial website including the good picture of Tom.  In the crew picture Tom Lamont is on the far left in the conning tower looking out to sea, not at the camera.  On his first war patrol the USS Snook devastated a Japanese convoy northeast of the Philippines, sinking four vessels and winning the Navy Submarine Combat Pin and Citation for its crew.  He wrote his father: 'It is no damn picnic…. at sea I am pretty happy.  I like the roll of the ship and the bright southern stars at night.  I came out of action with a deep sense of satisfaction - something that I hadn't felt before.'

The Snook and all the US submarine fleet compiled a remarkable record in WWII, sinking 55% of all of Japan's maritime losses including 30% of Japan's naval losses.  3,505 US submariners made the supreme sacrifice for their country, so it's wonderful that you are honoring the memory of those lost on the Snook.  Best regards."

"I came upon the memorial website for Thomas Lamont II but didn't see a reference or link to the following.  I hope that you'll share it with others who might be interested.  Needless to say, if it prompts any comments and corrections that you feel inclined to share with me, I'd be very grateful.  Lamont's Exeter graduation photo is on the link: http://www.jimsleeper.com/articles/signature-pieces/Duty%20Bound.pdf"
