J.D. "James" Choate - QM1
Patrol 9
“This comes as a great suprise that someone still has concern for the USS Snook, after all these years. James and my mom separated, when I was very young, and in 1948 I was adopted, which changed my last name from Choate to Turner. I never knew anything about James until about 15 years ago, when I made contact with his family. That is when I found out about James and the USS Snook. His oldest brother gave me his WW2 medals. His brothers and sisters have all since passed away. Funny thing is that I was in the Navy from 1958 to 1962 and stationed aboard the USS Sperry AS12, which is a submarine tender. During WW2, the USS Sperry was stationed in the western pacific and I have a feeling, that at sometime during the war, had the Snook alongside for repairs or supplies. Stay in touch and keep up the good work.”
